2011 Subaru Forester SUV Overviews

2011 Subaru Forester Reviews

Roof rails are standard to complete the Forester's look. The Subaru Forester 2.5XT has a powerful 224-horsepower, turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that gets an EPA-estimated 19/24 mpg city/highway and uses premium gas.

The 2011 Forester's interior is sparse and filled with black plastic. The Forester's lacking any high-tech gizmos or gadgets that you might expect to find in a car from the 2011 model year. In reality, with the seats up, cargo space is almost 31 cubic feet and with them down, it's about 63 cubic feet.

A center armrest and cupholders in the rear seat instantly makes the rear seat feel lounge-like and puts passengers at ease. In the front row, the driver and passenger have standard heated leather seats. The Subaru Forester has a standard MP3 jack as well as steering-wheel-mounted audio and cruise controls.

For 2011, Subaru Forester 2.5X models have a revised 2.5-liter engine that boosts torque and fuel economy slightly. The 2.5XT Limited trim has been dropped and a couple of new trim levels have been added: the 2.5X Touring and the 2.5XT Touring, positioned above the Limited trim. Several trims get improved audio features, while the 2.5X Premium gets a new optional TomTom navigation system. An eight-way power driver seat (with power-adjustable lumbar support) is now standard on the 2.5XT Premium, and Bluetooth is now standard on all Foresters except the 2.5X.

The 2011 Subaru Forester is a compact crossover SUV available in six trim levels: 2.5X, 2.5X Premium, 2.5X Limited, 2.5XT Premium, 2.5X Touring and 2.5XT Touring.
The 2.5X Premium adds 17-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, roof rails, an eight-way power driver seat with power-adjustable lumbar support, a tilt-and-telescoping steering column, Bluetooth with audio streaming, steering-wheel audio controls, iPod integration, USB connectivity and reclining rear seatbacks.

The 2.5XT Touring combines the 2.5XT Premium's features with those seen in the 2.5X Touring.
Every Subaru comes with standard all-wheel drive, and the Forester is no different. The automatic is the only transmission available on the 2.5X Limited, 2.5XT Premium, 2.5X Touring and 2.5XT Touring.
With the XT's turbocharged engine, fuel economy dips to 19 mpg city/24 mpg highway and 21 mpg combined.

Standard safety features on every 2011 Subaru Forester include antilock brakes with brake assist, traction and stability control, front-seat side airbags and front and rear side curtain airbags. The Forester has not been rated using the government's new, more strenuous 2011 crash-testing procedures. This crossover's split-folding rear seat with optional reclining seatbacks deserves special mention here.

The 2011 Forester has one of the most comfortable rides in the segment.
The Subaru Forester was fully redesigned for 2009, gaining a slightly larger, slightly more rounded look that replaced its much-loved, more overtly boxy predecessor. Inside, the Forester is a little plain, but it's a good fit for the outdoorsy, understated crowd that falls for the Forester in droves.

The big news is that the Subaru Forester gets an all-new engine for 2011. The way the Forester handles is positively carlike, and the all-wheel drive system assists with traction out of corners, enhancing its already admirable poise. The boxy shape of the 2011 Subaru Forester, along with ideally placed seating and a low cargo floor, altogether make it much roomier inside than you'd likely anticipate. All the while, the Forester feels quite refined. Also, the Forester's interior materials and trims—especially the unremarkable dash plastics—are a weakness, with dash and center-console materials, and grained and matte-metallic plastics used as surfaces, feeling a bit hard and hollow.

2011 subaru impreza wrx sti limited

2011 Subaru Impreza is available in four-door sedan and four-door hatchback body styles. Trim levels include 2.5i, 2.5i Premium, Outback Sport, WRX, WRX Premium, WRX Limited, WRX STI and WRX STI Limited. The Outback Sport is hatchback only, while the WRX STI Limited is sedan only

UPDATE 06/09/2010: Subaru today announced that the Subaru Impreza WRX STI Sedan has become the fastest WRX STI Ever.
UPDATE 10/07/2010: Prices for the 2011 Subaru WRX STI have just been announced for the UK.
Subaru of America today introduced a new 4-door version of its Impreza WRX STI performance flagship model. In addition to the new styling, the 2011 WRX STI features significantly revised suspension tuning and lighter 18-inch wheels for even sharper handling.

Most recently, the 2010 WRX STI Special Edition previewed some of the suspension enhancements now migrated to the 2011 WRX STI. In front, the 2011 WRX STI models feature sharpened bumper corners and wider, blacked-out fog lamp nacelles to accentuate the "wide and low" profile. The Subaru WRX STI was already a highly optimized performance machine. Aluminum front lower L-arms reduce unsprung vehicle weight. Both the front and rear suspension systems employ higher-rate springs and thicker front and rear stabilizer bars than the 2010 model: 21 mm vs. 20 mm in front and 19 mm vs. 18 mm in rear. New standard 18-inch aluminum wheels feature high-luster paint and weigh 17.6 lbs. less than the previous standard wheels. Exclusive to the WRX STI, the Brembo Performance Brake System uses ventilated 4-wheel Super Sport anti-lock (ABS) disc brakes with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). The 2011 WRX STI continues as the ultimate-performance Subaru with its high-boost 305-hp turbocharged/intercooled 4-cyl. The 2011 Impreza WRX STI models arrive in Subaru dealerships late this summer.

New for 2011, the WRX STI interior is finished in black and silver to highlight its sporty design. Trim panels, the steering wheel air bag cover and steering wheel switches are now dark cast metallic.

For 2011, the Subaru Impreza gets upgraded audio features, STI-inspired styling for the WRX and a sedan version of the WRX STI. There's something here for everyone, ranging from the sensible base Impreza 2.5i hatchback to the wickedly fast WRX STI sedan. Every Impreza trim level except the base model gets as standard equipment an updated audio system that features iPod integration and Bluetooth connectivity, though sound quality itself still ranks as subpar. This comprehensive lineup means the Impreza competes against a wide variety of other models. The WRX STI is a rally-bred performance machine that remains a compelling choice for Fast & Furious types drawn to big turbos, all-wheel drive and limited-slip differentials. Whether you're a snow-belt resident looking for a basic compact with the advantage of all-wheel drive or a serious performance enthusiast seeking the sweet sensation of turbocharged thrust and agile handling, there's likely an Impreza worthy of a test-drive.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options
The 2011 Subaru Impreza is available in four-door sedan and four-door hatchback body styles. Trim levels include 2.5i, 2.5i Premium, Outback Sport, WRX, WRX Premium, WRX Limited, WRX STI and WRX STI Limited. The Outback Sport is hatchback only, while the WRX STI Limited is sedan only.

The Outback Sport is similar to the 2.5i Premium trim level but has 17-inch alloy wheels, a raised suspension for more ground clearance, foglights, roof rails, bumper under-guards, unique exterior trim, special interior upholstery and a standard All Weather package (heated front seats, heated mirrors and windshield wiper de-icer).

The WRX is essentially a high-performance version of the Impreza that comes with a five-speed manual transmission (no automatic is available), a turbocharged engine, summer tires, a more aggressively tuned suspension, a tilt-and-telescoping steering column and special WRX trim and body styling. The WRX Premium adds the extra items from the 2.5i Premium as well as the sunroof package. The WRX STI is equipped similarly to the WRX, but ups the performance ante even further. It gains a six-speed manual transmission, 18-inch wheels, high-performance tires, Brembo brakes, front and rear limited-slip differentials, SI-Drive vehicle settings, an even more aggressively tuned suspension, a bigger hood scoop, xenon headlights, sport seats and faux-suede and leather upholstery. The WRX STI Limited adds foglights, 18-inch BBS wheels, the sunroof package and leather upholstery. A navigation system is optional on the STI trims as well.

Powertrains and Performance
Every 2011 Subaru Impreza comes standard with all-wheel drive. In performance testing, this normally aspirated 2.5-liter engine with the manual powered the Impreza from a standstill to 60 mph in 8.2 seconds. A five-speed manual is the lone transmission choice.

Safety
Standard on all Impreza models are antilock disc brakes, stability control, front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags and active front head restraints to help mitigate crash-induced whiplash. The WRX stopped in 114 feet and the STI did the task in 106 feet -- both very good.
In government crash tests, the 2011 Subaru Impreza scored a perfect five stars for frontal crash protection, five stars for front occupants in a side crash and four stars for rear occupants in a side crash.

Driving Impressions
The base 2011 Subaru Impreza rides and handles satisfactorily for a compact car, and its tenacious all-wheel drive is a boon for driving in bad weather.

New Toyobaru using two rear-wheel drive system

The New Toyobaru
The New Toyobaru, Toyota-Subaru collaboration products is ready to appear at the Tokyo Motor Show 2011

Not to mention the collaboration produced a prototype cardboard Toyota and Subaru, two principal Japanese cars were re-introduce another new product called "Toyobaru". coupe sedan will be displayed in the arena Tokyo Auto Show, December 2011.

This car was created after the signing of cooperation the two companies in April 2008 with a clear division of tasks. Toyota is responsible for handling the design and product planning, while Subaru working on the production and development continued.

When working on the project FT-86 II, Toyota's role in terms of design, while Subaru's engine supply. Perhaps, this is a prototype of Toyobaru FR-S that was shown on the arena Newy York Auto Show 2011 last month.

Especially for the Toyobaru coupe sedan there's only one model and will be marketed both Toyota and Subaru. Indeed, there will be changes to the design details in accordance with the marketing strategies of each company. Toyobaru equipped with 2.0-liter Boxer engine without a turbo (owned Subaru) with rear-wheel drive system.

Toyota describes Toyobaru as the next generation "the legendary" AE86 Corolla. Akio Toyoda, Toyota's president cited as the originator of this sports car uses two rear-wheel drive system, to satisfy fans of true speed.

Besides coupe sedan, Toyobaru mentioned still will be developed both companies and create a compact sedan to challenge the BMW Series-1. However, there has been no confirmation, either from Toyota or Subaru-related news. One thing is for sure, Toyota will market this car under the name Scion FR-S and the Subaru 2.0 Liter coupe in the United States and the new production process begins spring 2012.

2011 Subaru Tribeca reviews

2011 Subaru Tribeca
The 2011 Subaru Tribeca has a responsive engine, seating for seven and standard all-wheel drive, but reviewers say it’s expensive. The Tribeca has standard all-wheel drive, which separates it from the midsize SUV pack slightly, but that same all-wheel drive system has a negative impact on fuel economy. Plus, the Tribeca’s starting price is so high you can get optional all-wheel drive on most of the competition and still save money.

The 2011 Subaru Tribeca carries over unchanged from the previous year.
Even the Tribeca's performance is simply middle-of-the-road. On the plus side, the Tribeca's all-wheel-drive system delivers the assurance of solid footing in a variety of climates, a feature that sets it apart from the usual front-wheel-drive crossovers. Maneuvering in tight city confines is made easier by the Subaru's smaller dimensions. The third-row seat is for part-time convenience, not long-distance trips. The 2011 Subaru Tribeca is a seven-passenger midsize crossover SUV that is offered in Premium, Limited and Touring trim levels.

The Premium trim starts with 18-inch alloy wheels, tri-zone automatic climate control, a tilt (but not telescoping) steering wheel, heated power front seats, full power accessories, cruise control, a six-speaker CD/MP3 sound system with an auxiliary input jack, a 7-inch display screen and keyless entry.

The 2011 Subaru Tribeca is powered by a 3.6-liter, horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine that produces 256 horsepower and 247 pound-feet of torque. Every Tribeca features an all-wheel-drive system that sends 55 percent of the power to the rear wheels in normal driving.

Safety
Standard safety features for the 2011 Subaru Tribeca include antilock brakes (with brake assist), traction control, stability control with a rollover sensor, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags and active front head restraints.
The Subaru Tribeca has not been rated using the government's new, more strenuous 2011 crash-testing procedure.

Interior Design and Special Features
The Subaru Tribeca's interior offers a taste of excitement, as the sweeping wraparound dash features complex organic shapes that blend smoothly into the center console. The Tribeca's front seats provide decent comfort for the average-sized driver, but the lack of a telescoping steering wheel compromises seating for taller adults.
Most competitors in this price range offer superior third-row accommodations.

Driving Impressions
Unlike most other Subaru vehicles, which tend toward fun and lively, the Tribeca takes a step back. Once again, the 2011 Subaru Tribeca proves itself to be able-bodied, but lacking in spirit.

Once again, the 2011 Subaru Tribeca's sole engine option is a 3.6-liter flat-six engine with 256 horsepower and 247 pounds-feet of torque on tap. The 2011 Subaru Tribeca's 8.4 inches of ground clearance and standard all-wheel drive may scream off-road prowess, but this mid-size crossover is better suited to the suburban environment. Tribeca's interior has a futuristic theme with flowing lines that wrap around the driver and front passenger. The 2011 Subaru Tribeca is also one of the safest vehicles in its class, scoring full marks in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's (IIHS) crash tests. Whichever trim you choose in the lineup—Premium, Limited, or Touring—fog lights, 18-inch wheels, power driver and passenger seat, heated front seats, and third-row seating are standard equipment.

Subaru XV,new crossover concept

Subaru XV.At the Shanghai Auto Show and the New York Auto Show 2011 which took place today, Subaru introduced a new crossover concept, the Subaru XV. According to Subaru, is a crossover SUV with a more stylish appearance.

The new concept called "Protren" which derives from a combination of professional tools and trendy design. Precisely, Subaru defines itself that crossover is the functional integration for the professional and stylish appearance of urban and stylish.

Crossover including compact and can be seen from its dimensions, length x width x height: 4450 x 1800 x 1620 (mm), wheelbase 2636 mm. Characteristics that are not less interesting than this crossover is the engine embedded, namely boxer DOHC, 2.0 liter. However, power and torque produced by this machine can not be explained.

Furthermore, the machine ditandemkan Lineartronic or CVT transmission with a transfer of power to the entire wheel or all-wheel drive (AWD). A unique feature of this AWD, working symmetrically. That is, right and left axles the same length. Crossover appearance more manly by installing tires 245/45-ZR19.

Stereo Camera
Subaru XV No less interesting is the appearance of the interior. Jok coated silver white which gives a sense of comfort and steadily occupied. This seat design gives the impression of a casual appearance, sporty, and of course keep the style.

Another feature is Subaru XV LCD monitor mounted on the center panel. According to Subaru, this screen function display three different information, the navigation, audio, and working conditions of the vehicle. This monitor has been using touch screen technology.

Subaru XV
Other sophisticated equipment is a security system that is named "EyeSight" to help drivers monitor the conditions in the vicinity. Through these screens, the driver can see the surrounding circumstances which were recorded by the stereo camera EyeSight!

2011 Subaru Outback Reviews

2011 Subaru Outback
The Subaru Outback is one of the best known model of cars of all time. The Subaru Outback model has revolutionized - and many say even started - the crossover style of vehicle. The 2011 model hasn't changed much from the 2010 model, although there are subtle differences that should be noted.

Every model includes anti-lock brakes, seatbelts with pre-tensioners, side curtain airbags, stability control and all wheel drive - to ensure that you remain in control of the vehicle at all times. The Subaru Outback model has consistently earned top honors in many safety tests and measures.

If users do desire more power, the six cylinder model should provide adequate power to get the job done.

The 2011 model is basically the same as far as styling goes when compared to the 2010 model. The 2011 Subaru Outback retains many of the great features that the 2010 model had.

The 2011 Subaru Outback continues to offer value and versatility. Unlike previous generations, the latest Outback diverges further from its wagon roots and embraces the crossover trend.

Redesigned for the 2010 model year, the 2011 Subaru Outback receives only a handful of small changes.

The Outback’s pleasant interior carries over for 2011. Despite a sales hike of $200 for all 2011 Outback’s over their 2010 counterparts, the Outback still represents a terrific value. Reviewers say drivers accustomed to light off-roading or snow will greatly appreciate the Outback’s standard all-wheel drive system

Somewhere amid the parade of crossovers and wagon-like vehicles is the Subaru Outback. The Outback's formula for success is no secret. Trim levels include the four-cylinder Outback 2.5i and six-cylinder Outback 3.6R, each of which come in three versions: base, Premium and Limited (compare them here). As with all Subarus, all-wheel drive is standard. The Outback was redesigned for 2010; you can compare that version with the 2011 Outback here. We evaluated the four-cylinder Outback last year; this time around we tested a six-cylinder Outback 3.6R Limited.

Loaded with passengers, the four-cylinder drivetrain requires patience reaching highway speeds, and it strains to keep up under hard acceleration.

The combined EPA gas mileage estimates range from 20 mpg with the six-cylinder and automatic to 24 mpg with the four-cylinder and automatic.

Employing a car-based four-wheel-independent suspension since its mid-1990s inception, the Outback displays admirable ride quality. Driving enthusiasts will appreciate the steering wheel's heavy weight at low speeds, while average drivers will want more power assist for easier parking-lot maneuvers. Find a winding road, however, and the Outback handles well. Credit the standard all-wheel drive, whose power distribution skews slightly rearward in six-cylinder Outbacks. All automatic Outbacks distribute power between the axles electronically; the manual Outback uses a simpler viscous coupling that's less proactive in doling out power when the wheels start to slip. We've driven previous Outbacks on trails, and the all-wheel drive — along with an impressive 8.7 inches of ground clearance — make for better capability than you'd expect in a crossover.

Four-wheel-disc antilock brakes are standard, with larger discs installed on six-cylinder Outbacks. Loaded down with some 500 pounds of cargo, our test car took significantly farther to come to a halt.

Cargo volume behind the rear seat is a competitive 34.3 cubic feet, and the Outback's wide, rectangular cargo area accommodates large cargo better than many.

In crash tests by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the Outback received the highest score, Good, in front, rear, side-impact and roof-crush tests. The Outback 2.5i comes with power windows and locks, remote entry, cruise control, air conditioning and a CD stereo with an auxiliary jack and steering-wheel audio controls. A conventional moonroof (not the dual moonroof available in prior Outbacks) and the navigation system are optional.

The six-cylinder Outback 3.6R comes standard with a five-speed automatic transmission; the CVT automatic runs $1,000 in the 2.5i and 2.5i Premium (it's standard on the 2.5i Limited). Load up a six-cylinder Outback, and the price tops out around $34,000.

2011 Subaru Legacy Reviews

 Subaru Legacy
The 2011 Subaru Legacy is available in 3 different engine choices. The 2.5 liter four cylinder offers 170 horsepower with 170 foot pounds of torque. All Legacy models, regardless of engine size, feature all wheel drive to make handling smoother. A 6 speed manual or automatic transmission is available, which allows drivers to pick their preference of driving experience.
You will find most safety features standard regardless of package options, which really says something for Subaru. The 2011 Subaru Legacy offers only one optional safety feature and that is the parking assist.

The Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, and Mazda6 all offer very similar safety features, options, and performance. The Camry’s base model offers 169 horsepower, while the Accord and Mazda6 offer 180 and 170 respectively.

Choices abound with the Legacy, which comes in many trim levels and offers three engine types and three transmissions.

The 2.5 GT Premium model is gone, leaving the 2.5 GT Limited as the lone turbocharged model. Exterior features include:
Standard 16-inch wheels
Available 17- and 18-inch alloy wheels
Functional hood scoop on 2.5 GT
Projector beam headlights
Interior features include:
Standard keyless entry
Standard 60/40-split folding rear seats
Available Bluetooth audio streaming capability
Available dual-zone climate control

Under the Hood
Three engines — a 2.5-liter four-cylinder, a turbocharged 2.5-liter and a 3.6-liter six-cylinder — make 170 horsepower, 265 hp and 256 hp, respectively.
170-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder
265-hp, turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder
256-hp, 3.6-liter six-cylinder
Six-speed manual transmission
Five-speed automatic (3.6-liter six-cylinder)
Standard all-wheel drive

Reviews of the 2011 Subaru Legacy are generally mixed. Like all Subarus, the Legacy has standard all-wheel-drive, a unique feature that helps provide added safety and security. In 2.5i Legacy models, reviewers note slow acceleration, though the more powerful 2.5GT or 3.6R models solve this problem.

Consumers checking out the 2011 Subaru Legacy should be sure to check out other affordable midsize cars with all-wheel-drive options. The Suzuki Kizashi is also available with an all-wheel drive option.

For 2011 the Legacy 2.5GT is only available in Limited trim. New for 2011, the Legacy comes standard with folding rear-view mirrors.

2011 Subaru Foresters S-Edition

Subaru Foresters S-Edition Review

The new flagship “performance” model includes a range of WRX STI components and is the most powerful model in the compact SUV range in Australia.

The Subaru Foresters S-Edition is listed at $50,990, which is $3500 more than the XT model, but it has 24kW more power, 27Nm more torque, leather upholstery and STI 17-inch wheels, turbocharger, intercooler and suspension.

The base model petrol Foresters get the new FB naturally aspirated horizontally opposed boxer engine, replacing the EJ unit introduced in 1989. Only Subaru anoraks will notice the exterior changes. Forester X, XS and XT have black-finish roof rails, while S-Edition gets silver. S-Edition gets some extra badging, black and blue alcantara seats, drilled alloy pedals, luminescent instruments and STI wheels.

With nearly 150,000 Subaru Foresters sold in Australia, the time has come for an ultra-high performance variant. Say hello to the Subaru Forester S-Edition.

Those of you that know your Subarus might be wondering why there is now a Forester XT and an S-Edition in the one model range?

Subaru has built a great deal of its brand heritage on Forester and Impreza models and their performance variants. The Subaru Forester S-Edition uses the same 2.5-litre turbocharged engine from the MY11 Impreza WRX which has a gutsy 193 kW and 347 Nm of torque. More power (24 kW), more torque (27 Nm), a better automatic transmission, 17-inch STI alloy wheels, choice to buy it in world-rally blue (WRX blue), unique seats and a few other things. The only reason to buy an XT now is if you must have a manual, as the S-Edition is only available with the STI five-speed.

To showcase the all-new 2011 Subaru Forester range and allow us some time behind the wheel of the S-Edition, Subaru Australia brought the motoring press to Canberra, where the temperature was 38 degrees but the roads were perfect for our purpose.

If you want the ultimate handling Subaru, you can’t compromise. Around Canberra’s country mountain roads the S-Edition proved itself a neat package capable of excellent handling dynamics for a car its size. If you’re a car enthusiast and want performance but can’t convince the missus that you need Impreza WRX STI or you must have the practicality that the Forester offers, then the S-Edition is the ideal choice. It’s a harder ride than the standard Forester but still very much a family car.

The interior of the "2011 Subaru Forester" has been updated with a darker dashboard and highlights. S-edition (and XT) gain new luminescent instruments and the Japanese company says it has helped reduce cabin noise with better insulation. If you don’t have SatNav you get USB connectivity. The only other worthy criticism is the S-Edition’s brakes. The Forester comes with dual front and side airbags as well as full length curtain airbags for maximum protection.
The Subaru Forester S-Edition is an excellent package and at $50,990 represents a great choice for buyers looking for a performance orientated practical compact SUV.
Also snared from the newly introduced Impreza STI auto, the gearbox features paddle shifts.

Other S-Edition Concept additions include revised ‘sports’ suspension, Subaru’s ‘Variable Torque Distribution’ (VTD) All-Wheel Drive hardware, 17-inch STI alloys, “exclusive styling accents”, Alcantara seat trim, drilled alloy pedals, and unique luminescent instrumentation.

“We’re delighted and honoured that Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI) have chosen Sydney for the worldwide unveil of this Forester concept,” he said.

2011 Impreza WRX STI Reviews

The STI sedan returns and retunes with suspension upgrades.
In the wake of the news that all 2011 Impreza WRXs would be getting wider tracks and STI-inspired wide-body styling, we figured the nails were already being driven into the STI’s coffin.

The upgrades made to create the 2010 STI Special Edition were only the beginning; the ’11 STI goes further with an even more aggressive suspension to reduce body roll and create more neutral handling. After our time in the STI Special Edition, we’re pretty confident this new STI will make good on its promise of improved handling. That thing we said about the STI being killed?
However, when the current car was launched in five-door hatchback form only for 2008, it polarized opinion, especially among Subaru enthusiasts. Well Impreza diehards, for 2011, Subaru has relented; reintroducing said bodystyle for the STI and one that quite appropriately has that monster wing mounted on the rear. It also gives the four-door a higher top speed than its hatchback counterpart (160 versus 155 mph).

Combined with the bulging fenders (the rears are noticeably more pronounced on the sedan) plus an aggressive (and functional) front air dam, the result harkens back to the golden age of Japanese performance cars and is very much a boy-racer look. Although the driveline remains essentially unchanged – the 2011 Impreza WRX STI is powered by the same 305 horsepower, turbocharged 2.5-liter flat-four; delivering the same meaty 290 ft-lbs of torque at 4000 rpm – the suspension and tire upgrades result in a car that feels even quicker than before, especially through the corners.

Aided by the symmetrical all-wheel drive system and three differentials - helical limited slip front; Torsen rear and Driver Controlled Center Diff (which still allows the torque split to be adjusted manually from 50/50 to 30/70 front/rear), the 2011 STI is tremendous fun and grip seems almost never ending.

This truly is a serious performance car you can drive every day, no matter the distance or how bad the weather gets.

For years, the Subaru WRX has been one of the world's least pretentious performance buys. In either sedan or hatchback trim, the car has presented itself as a conservative economy car. Meanwhile, the car's big brother – the WRX STI – has been fitted with a completely reworked suspension and an all-new four-door body style.

"We managed to increase the track of the WRX by nearly 1.5 inches," says Martyn Harding, Impreza car line manager for Subaru North America. In reality, Subaru has spread the WRX by 1.3 inches compared to the 2010 model—a big number by anyone's count—thanks solely to the car's wild new bodywork.
Mated to a five-speed manual transmission and an all-wheel drive system, the combination returns 19 mpg city and 25 mpg highway. Likewise, the WRX STI retains its old engine, though it produces a more muscular 305 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque. Though the added width and wider wheels and tires (now up to 17 x 8 inches on all four corners) help to keep the car planted, we couldn't help but notice that the extra grip simply makes the driver more aware of the car's softer springs and dampers compared to the WRX STI.

While we can praise both the WRX and "WRX STI" all day long for their driving characteristics on a curvy strip of mountain pavement, neither is exactly designed for a buyer looking for a tomb-like luxury ride. The price of a low(ish) curb weight and sports car track prowess is a somewhat noisy cabin.

2011 WRX STI announces special specifications

While we’re thrilled to have the new 2011 WRX STI on sale here, as usual, Subaru Japan has one-upped the U.S. offering with the new 2011 WRX STI Spec C. The Spec C packs 304-hp and 317 lb-ft of torque from its 2.0L powerplant thanks to a revamped ECU and ball-bearing twin-scroll turbocharger.

Subaru Tecnica International (STI, President Hiroyuki Karamatsu) announces “WRX STI tS” and “WRX STI A-Line tS” special specifications vehicle that are based on 4-door SUBARU WRX STI and WRX STI A-Line (AT model) featuring the unique equipment and tasting.

The “WRX STI tS” and the “WRX STI A-Line tS” based on 4-door SUBARU WRX STI models are STI complete cars adopting STI’s unique specifications equipment to exterior, interior and chassis, and give drivers even more satisfaction to own and drive the vehicle. Other features include Front Under Spoiler, newly designed STI 18 inch alloy Wheel, side sill plates with the “tS” logo, special tS front and rear Ornaments, special STI rear Ornament, Steering Wheel with the “tS” logo, and Push Engine Switch.

Last year we saw the first iteration of the new Subaru Impreza WRX STI Spec C, a lighter and more hardcore version of the then-new Impreza WRX STI that was built in a limited run of just 900 cars. The car essentially featured enhanced engine and chassis performance as well as the aforementioned lighter body, which was derived from Subaru motorsports program.

The adoption of an aluminum engine hood, laminar window glasses and a downsized battery resulted in a lighter body, which further refines the model’s driving performance. Additionally, thanks to its specially tuned front and rear suspension, the chassis offers improved handling, especially in the wet.

Subaru Impreza WRX STi-The Japanese of Subaru have teased a carbon fiber roof version

Here’s one good reason to move to Japan: The Subaru Impreza WRX STI, a vehicle that offers one of the best performance for money packages on the market is set to receive a new (set of) enhancement(s) that will only be available for the Japanese domestic market.

We’d certainly like to live in a country that has given the world loony vehicles like the GT-R, the Evo and the Subaru Impreza WRX STI ,Subaru’s Japanese website has published a teaser image of an upcoming incarnation of the Impreza WRX STI tS.
The Japanese of Subaru have teased a carbon fiber roof version of the Subaru Impreza WRX STi built only for the Japanese Domestic Market. Subaru Impreza WRX STi is powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter boxer engine capable of developing 300 HP and 300 lb-ft of torque. Again for the ones not knowing too much about Subaru, tS stands for “tuned by STI” and again STI stands for “Subaru Tecnica International.”

The Subaru Impreza WRX STi is back, baby! Erase those horrid memories of the previous Subaru Impreza WRX STi with abundant body roll and numb steering response. And Subaru has brought back the sedan, big wing and all. Turn one is a very sharp right-hander, which required heavy braking off the front straight before turn in. Getting back to the present day, Subaru has heard and, most important, responded to its loyal followers by returning the Subaru Impreza WRX STi sedan to the lineup and made big strides in tightening up the car. The result is a car that responds to steering inputs quicker and with far less body roll, dive under braking and understeer.

If it were a basketball squad you’d have the starting five of Subaru WRX STI, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, Volkswagen GTI, Mazdaspeed3 and Volvo S40 R-Design; and then the bench of Lancer Ralliart, Nissan Sentra Spec V, Mini Cooper JCW, Acura CSX Type S and the Subaru WRX. The differences are pronounced – besides the obvious exaggerated body armour (prominent spoiler and wheels), there’s the power thingy (305 hp on the STI, versus a measly 265 on the WRX; 290 lb.-ft. up against 240) and, of course, the price point (the STI carries a $5,500 premium, so you’re pushing $40,000 with the STI rather than breaking $30,000 with the WRX). Where you likely will notice the difference, though, is while you’re shifting through the WRX’s five-speed manual to get up to speed (the STI uses a six speed). The rear seats are split and fold down flat to the second level of the trunk (there’s a lower level closer to the trunk lid and a slight step up above the rear wheel set). Like the STI, the latest WRX is available in hatchback and sedan bodystyle so it’s up to you to decide what bodystyle suits your needs better.

2011 Subaru WRX STI

The 2008–2010 Subaru WRX STI was something of an enigma, a bit like people who enjoy eating headcheese. Stiffer springs, thicker front and rear anti-roll bars, revised front control arm bushings, and firmer rear subframe bushings all have been fitted. Unlike the WRX, the STI features the adjustable SI-Drive system that allows the pilot to tune throttle response, and there are also multiple modes for the STI-specific DCCD locking center differential. A perhaps more significant change for 2011, however, is the reintroduction of an STI sedan to accompany the five-door hatchback. At 3420 pounds, the sedan we tested here was 34 pounds heavier than was our long-term 2008 STI hatch. Both STI models get a more aggressive front fascia and a blacked-out grille; the sedan gets a wing that’s big enough to adorn a Formula 1 car. The five-speed "Subaru Impreza WRX", of course, requires only one gearshift during a 0–60 run where the six-speed STI needs two, but it was slower even over the quarter-mile: 13.9 seconds at 99 mph against 13.7 at 100 mph for the Subaru Impreza WRX. (The WRX gets around at 0.89 g.)

The STI rides in a more supple, controlled manner than the previous car, despite the stiffer front springs, which also help mitigate understeer at the limit. We’d stick with the Subaru Impreza WRX.
Sharp, muscular, agile, eager. It's also a mix that, with the new 2011 model-year WRX STI Type UK (note that the Impreza moniker is no more), Subaru appears to have rediscovered.
Whoever wins their very own Subaru Impreza WRX STI in this competition will earn my eternal envy.
The new WRX STI's suspension is the key to all the fun. All-new lightweight alloys and upgraded Brembo brakes complete the picture. Switch the still-present intelligent Subaru SI drive unit to its sharpest setting, and the Subaru Impreza WRX STI reveals that it can provide sharp throttle and chassis response without sacrificing the assured grip of a proper all-wheel drivetrain.

By far the most significant change to the Subaru Impreza WRX STI's spec, however, is the fitment as standard of some rather natty Recaro sports seats, which cosset and support in equal measure - and which utterly transform the driving position. Before, the current-generation STi's seats always felt flat, wooden and oddly positioned; not so now.
With cars like the Renault Megane R26 R and the Ford Focus RS firmly embedded in the public's consciousness, the Subaru Impreza WRX does feel a smidgen old-fashioned, particularly in the showroom.

Around back, the wider track is most noticeable. The metal bits were dropped, in favor of more black plastic pieces and give the car a more grown up look. Besides the plastic bits, the interior is fairly decent. The wider track pays off in the bends, as do the wider wheels. For 2011, the Subaru Impreza WRX comes with 17x8 alloys wrapped it 235/45R17 Dunlop SPo1 summer tires. The increase in size hasn’t affected the weight though, as Subaru claims the new wheels decrease weight by 1.5 pounds each.

Under the aggressively sculpted hood lies a 265 horsepower, 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 244 pound-feet of torque. Like all Subaru models, the WRX comes with full-time all-wheel drive.

The EPA rates the new 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX at 19 miles per gallon city and 25 mph on the highway, but we managed an overall rating of 24.7 mpg during city, highway, and some spirited driving. Even with Ohio’s terrible roads, nothing could spoil the WRX’s wonderful driving experience. That sensational motor wasn’t even the best bit of the new WRX. Like the 1980s New York Mets, the Subaru WRX has grown up and surpassed its big brother, the 2010 STI.

7.10.10

Subaru Impreza WRX STI 2011

The new Subaru Impreza WRX STI offered in two body styles (5-door and 4-door). In addition to the new styling, the 2011 WRX STI features significantly revised suspension tuning and lighter 18-inch wheels for even sharper handling. The Subaru Impreza WRX STI has been a recipient of continuous improvement since its introduction. Most recently, the 2010 WRX STI Special Edition previewed some of the suspension enhancements now migrated to the 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI.

In front, the 2011 WRX STI models feature sharpened bumper corners and wider, blacked-out fog lamp nacelles to accentuate the “wide and low” profile. A jutting lip spoiler with three-dimensional detailing emphasizes the cars’ sporty intent. The newly designed front grille with black base and blacked-out Subaru wing highlights the headlights’ shape to give the entire front end a more powerful appearance, accentuated by larger grille and bumper intake openings.

New standard 18-inch aluminum wheels feature high-luster paint and weigh 17.6 lbs. less than the previous standard wheels. The optional 18 x 8.5-in. BBS® forged aluminum-alloy wheels, which further reduce unsprung vehicle weight, are highlighted by silver high-luster paint for 2011.

Exclusive to the Subaru Impreza WRX STI, the Brembo Performance Brake System uses ventilated 4-wheel Super Sport anti-lock (ABS) disc brakes with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). Super Sport ABS can control the braking forces at each rear wheel independently, which optimizes braking ability during hard cornering to help reduce understeer.

The 2011 WRX STI continues as the ultimate-performance Subaru with its high-boost 305-hp turbocharged/intercooled 4-cyl. Boxer engine and 6-speed manual transmission. The STI also features Multi-Mode Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD) version of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive with three “Auto” modes, as well as a manual mode with six driver-selectable differential locking settings.

New for 2011, the WRX STI interior is finished in black and silver to highlight its sporty design. Trim panels, the steering wheel air bag cover and steering wheel switches are now dark cast metallic. The 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI models arrive in Subaru dealerships in late summer 2010.

Subaru Canada announce pricing for the 2011 Impreza WRX and WRX STI models

Subaru Canada, Inc. (SCI) is pleased to announce pricing for the 2011 high-performance Impreza WRX and WRX STI models
In addition to the new styling, the 2011 WRX STI features significantly revised suspension tuning and lighter 18-inch wheels for even sharper handling.

“The 2011 4-door WRX STI will expand the appeal of this iconic performance model to a wider range of driving enthusiasts.”
The 2011 Impreza WRX STI models are en route to Subaru dealerships now.

New WRX STI Four-Door with Wide-Body Design
The 2011 WRX STI continues as the ultimate-performance Subaru with its high-boost 305-horsepower turbocharged/intercooled Subaru Boxer engine teamed with a 6-speed manual transmission and the exclusive Multi-Mode Driver Controlled Centre Differential (DCCD) version of Subaru’s Symmetrical Full-time All-Wheel Drive system.
The WRX STI is equipped with advanced dynamic control systems, including Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-DRIVE) and a Multi-Mode Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) system, which features a track performance-optimized mode.
All-New 4-Door Wide Body Design for 2011
Like the wide-body design already used for the 5-door WRX STI, the new 4-door WRX STI features the widened front and rear track dimensions of the 5-door model and wider, more pronounced front fenders and rear quarter panels. In front, the 2011 WRX STI models feature sharpened bumper corners to accentuate the “wide and low” profile. A striking high profile rear spoiler was exclusively designed for the STI 4-door.
New WRX STI Chassis Tuning for 2011
The Subaru WRX STI was already a highly optimized performance machine. The WRX STI delivers responsive handling along with everyday ride compliance.
New standard 18-inch Enkei aluminum wheels feature high-luster paint and weigh 8kg less than the previous standard wheels.
SI-DRIVE Gives WRX STI Driver More Control
SI-DRIVE alters vehicle performance characteristics by regulating the Engine Control Module (ECM) and by fine-tuning the Electronic Throttle Control system.
Multi-Mode DCCD All-Wheel Drive with Three-Mode Vehicle Dynamics Control
As before, the 2011 WRX STI is exclusively equipped with the Multi-Mode Driver Controlled Centre Differential (DCCD) version of Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. A mechanical limited-slip type centre differential augments an electronically controlled centre differential to enhance torque transfer performance. Sensor inputs that include steering angle, throttle position, RPM, lateral g, yaw, brake, ABS and wheel speed govern torque transfer response. A helical-type limited-slip front differential and a TORSEN(R) torque-sensing limited-slip rear differential optimize side-to-side power distribution, helping to prevent the inside wheels from slipping during cornering.
The DCCD AWD system features three automatic modes. The Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) stability and traction control system is standard on all Subaru models. Exclusive to the WRX STI, the Multi-Mode VDC system offers the driver three settings: VDC Normal, Traction and Off. Also exclusive to the WRX STI, the Brembo Performance Brake System uses ventilated 4-wheel disc brakes with Super Sport anti-lock (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). The wheel features control switches for Bluetooth(R) hands-free phone function. The WRX STI models are equipped with standard aluminum-alloy pedals and driver’s footrest. Performance-design front seats integrate the backrest and head restraint into a single structure. A 60/40-split folding rear seat further boosts cargo capacity and convenience, and the 4-door also features a rear seat fold-down centre armrest.
Steering wheel mounted controls for the audio system, cruise control and Bluetooth(R) are standard for all 2011 Impreza WRX STI models.
Subaru Safety
Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) provides precise control of braking pressure between the front and rear wheels based on the vehicle load to improve stability and stopping distances. All Impreza models utilize the proven advanced Subaru Ring-Shaped Reinforcement Frame body structure with front and rear crumple zones. Front seat side airbags and side-curtain airbags are standard on all Subaru models.

Subaru Celeno Sports Sedan Concept

New Subaru Celeno Sports Sedan Concept, Subaru's relatively boring lineup (barring the STI, and to a lesser extent, the WRX), it's refreshing to find people interested in bringing some new ideas to the brand. In the case of the Celeno, that person is budding car designer Xuacu Pérez Quesada.

for more Mr. Quesada interned for Italdesign and received an M.A. in Transportation Design from the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia; he is obviously not a person playing around on the computer with a bong and some photoshop skills (to those people out there: feel free to keep sending stuff in, we don't mind).

The Subaru Celeno is Quesada's interpretation of a small Subaru with some BMW Visions EfficientDynamics thrown in. It's a sleek four-door coupe seen down the hypothetical line created by Subaru's own Hybrid Tourer.

2010 Subaru Tribeca overview

The 2010 Subaru Tribeca Affordable Midsize SUVs. While auto reviewers praise the Subaru Tribeca's powerful engine, responsive ride and well-equipped cabin, some wonder if it offers enough to distinguish itself from the competition. The Subaru Tribeca’s strengths are its seven-passenger seating (newly standard for 2010) and Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system. With a base price around $31,000, the Tribeca is one of the pricier vehicles in its class. In a big, big field."

It costs a whopping $10,000 less than the 2010 Subaru Tribeca (even with the extra-cost third-row seat) and boasts considerably higher 19/25 mpg fuel economy. Another option is the seven-seat Suzuki XL7, which costs about $6,000 less than the Tribeca and achieves 17/24 mpg fuel economy.

The 2010 Subaru Tribeca takes its name from the artsy New York City neighborhood, and indeed, this Subaru has a little avant-garde in its genes. Moreover, the Subaru Tribeca ride is smooth and quiet -- unusually so for a Subaru.

A midsize crossover SUV, the 2010 Subaru Tribeca comes in Premium, Limited and Touring trim levels, each with standard seven-passenger seating. The Premium comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, tri-zone automatic climate control, a tilt (but not telescoping) steering wheel, heated power front seats, full power accessories, cruise control, a six-speaker CD/MP3 sound system with an auxiliary input jack, a 7-inch display screen and keyless entry.
Optional on both Limited (Moonroof package required) and Touring is a Navigation package that includes a navigation system, a back-up camera (with the camera display migrating to the navigation screen) and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

The "2010 Subaru Tribeca's" 3.6-liter, horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine produces 256 horsepower and 247 pound-feet of torque. All Tribecas use an all-wheel-drive system that sends 55 percent of the power to the rear wheels in normal driving.

Fuel economy is unimpressive, however, at 16 mpg city/21 mpg highway and 18 mpg combined.

Every 2010 Subaru Tribeca comes with antilock brakes (with brake assist), traction control and stability control with a rollover sensor. Front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags and active front head restraints round out the safety features.

In government crash tests, the Tribeca scored a perfect five stars for both front and side impact protection.

The Subaru Tribeca interior is its most distinctive feature. The Tribeca's front seats offer fine comfort, but the rear compartment isn't so pleasant. Maximum cargo capacity is just 74 cubic feet.
Subarus tend to be entertainingly quirky vehicles to drive, but the 2010 Subaru Tribeca bucks this trend
