After a nine-month hiatus, our spy photographers have once again caught up with Lotus’ mysterious Exige prototype.

The current Lotus Exige is available with a few variations of Toyota’s 1.8L four-cylinder, with the most powerful version putting out 243 horsepower. To go along with that added power, expect the next-generation Exige to feature adequate chassis and suspension upgrades. Judging by the latest shots, the next Lotus Exige will grow in length and track.

The prototype caught testing featured widened wheel arches and increased cooling. The Toyota-sourced V6 engine used in the Evora delivers a total of 276bhp and 258lb.-ft. or torque, more than even the top version Exige S that delivers a total of 257bhp and 174lb ft. The spy images also suggest that the Lotus Exige might be built on a longer wheelbase.

Key change over the previous entry-level Elise is the fitment of a 1.6-litre, Toyota-sourced engine in place of the old 1.8-litre one. Peak power stays the same with 134bhp at 6,700rpm, but torque drops a bit to 118lb.ft at 4,400rpm. You’ll need a bit more than the £27,450 list price for your perfect Elise, as the Touring Pack costs £2,000 but includes the excellent ProBax seats, leather door and centre console trim, carpet mats, noise insulation panelling, auxiliary driving lights and iPod connection.
The 1.6-litre engine needs working a bit harder than its 1.8-litre predecessor, but that’s part of its appeal. The six-speed transmission shifts with more precision than the old five-speed gearbox thanks to a firmer placement and slicker cable linkages.

2011 Lotus Evora is one of the flagship product from Lotus which launched late 2010 and went on sale this year. First, you scan the list of options – touch screen navigation, premium leather seats, rear parking sensors, iPod adapter, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, rear view camera, Alpine audio system, power folding mirrors. Notably Evora 2 +2 sports cars on the market with a mid-engine configuration. The Lotus Evora S will be brought together in Paris by the IPS Evora, or “move intelligent precision, developed with a six-speed automatic transmission with Lotus equipped Transmission Control.

There are no significant changes to the Elise and Elise SC for 2011.

The Elise SC adds a supercharger to make 217 hp at 8,000 rpm and 155 pounds-feet of torque at 5,000 rpm.

Lotus isn’t fully revamping the car for 2011, but a mild update is in the cards for the world’s smallest provider of huge thrills.

Up front, a new fascia consolidates the various intake elements into one, Miata–like grin—now sans strakes—while single-element headlights replace the staggered-size units occupying the previous Elise’s hood. The biggest news for daily users of the Elise (Hi, Caswell!) is that the trunk can now be opened from inside the car, rather than relying solely on the key fob to be unlocked. Also, there is now a tiny Elise graphic on the new LED turn-signal element, so there’s that.
Most of us bemoan this change, although some point out that maybe the Elise will appeal to a broader audience now. No face lift will ever change that.

Meeting U.S. crash standards required the addition of airbags and other safety features that add weight. But Lotus knew that even sports car fans in this country would have trouble giving up comfort for the sake of extreme performance, so the U.S. Lotus Elise comes standard with air-conditioning, antilock brakes and a CD audio system. But don't look for stability control or power steering on this sports car. That made it easily the lightest performance car sold in this country.

With so little weight to push around, power requirements are minimal. Most Lotus Elises feature a Toyota-sourced (and Yamaha-built) 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine. The 2011 Lotus Elise is a two-seat midengine roadster available in one trim level. Several options packages, such as the Touring, Sport and Performance packages, offer a bit of customization. Power for the Lotus Elise comes from a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The Toyota-sourced engine benefits from Lotus-designed intake and exhaust components and a tweaked engine controller. Should the standard Elise be inadequate, there's always the supercharged Elise SC, boasting a 218-hp version of the standard Elise's engine.

Lotus introduced the Americanized "111R" version of the Elise in 2005, enabled by a three-year NHTSA exemption as the car had failed to meet U.S. bumper regulations. The supercharged Elise SC debuted for 2008.

The Best British Cars

Jaguar, Rolls Royce, Aston Martin, and Lotus - what do they have in common? If you are thinking they are some of the world's best cars then you are correct. But aside from being the best automobile in the world, these cars are all British cars.

Jaguar gained its worldwide fame during the 1960s because of its drop top roadsters. It is a favorite choice of cars in several films such as Austin Powers. At present, Jaguar is owned by Indian Tata Motors.

Another British car is the Rolls Royce. Regarded as the car of the millionaires, Rolls Royce is known for its class and size. It is often used as limousines by the rich and the famous from all parts of the world. All through the years, Rolls Royce has manufactured expensive and exclusive car models such as Phantom, which is a favorite car by Hollywood celebrities 50 Cent and P Diddy.

Not to be forgotten when it comes to the best British car is the Aston Martin. This car is best known to be the car for Agent 007 or popularly known as James Bond, the fictional character for the movie with the same name. Aston Martin is known for manufacturing supercars with incredible style like their models Vanquish and DB9.

Lastly, there is the Lotus, an iconic British car well known for manufacturing both racing and road cars. The Lotus has produced sports cars such as Elise and Exige, famous for being not only the smallest but the fastest supercars as well.
