BMW Cars - Epic History and Early Years of BMW Cars

Famous car manufacturing brand BMW (Bayerische Motoren Werke AG) is a popular German automotive company. Generally, people know them for producing classic cars. However, this company is also a pioneer in manufacturing classic motorcycles especially made for sports. The company started its car production during the early days of First World War.

Today, it has established as a leading brand. BMW was started in 1916, as the subsidiary of Rolls-Royce Motors. During this time the company was only handling auto parts and making their famous motorcycles. With designs from Rolls Royce in hand, the company soon started making their own brand as BMW Motored, and BMW Husqvarna. In that time the company was producing just fifty motorcycles in one batch, worlds apart today this small venture has become the leader in premium automotive brands.

BMW New Class was the first line of the BMW vehicles being offered as competition to the Rolls Royce. It took more than fifty years for BMW to come up with this winning design and this was launched in 1962. In short time this model became the classic icon and most popular car model. The last model of the New Class BMW was released in the market in 2002 and even today most celebrities long for having this one as their dream car.

Interestingly this was one of the first cars to have four cylinders engine known as M10. The independent suspension was also first introduced in this brand as well. The forefather of all sports cars, this classic was also given the two door treatment as well. This sedan model also known as 1600 series was started in 1966, and has continued till 2002 as well.

BMW Sports is in a different league then any other sport vehicle event today. There are more than twenty features that are only found with this brand. With all the attention of the auto enthusiasts focused on this brand from start, the BMD has also become quite successful in giving the third generation BMW as well. Simply known as BMW-3 this car was given the three and four door treatment as well.

The BMW was increased in size with BMW 5 in 1972. This upscale car came with the 2000C model and 2000CS model as well. The BMW was working with four cylinders engine till this model, after this the major change happened with the six cylinder engine which increased the performance almost two folds. The E9 series is the one which saw this change first. Introduced in 1969, this was soon discontinued after 1975. The reason of this discontinuance was that the model proved too expensive and this was replaced with 320i model in the same year as well.
