From the New Beatle to a VW Pickup

On most days, taking a test drive of the New Beetle at VW Santa Monica is a waiting game. More than a year after bug redux, car buyers still stack up five deep to get behind the wheel, as if queuing for a carnival ride. "We can't keep up with the flow," sighs VW dealer Jeff La Plant, who has nearly doubled his sales staff. "The New Beetle is like a magnet that draws people back to us."

Indeed, Beetlemania has revived Volkswagen in America. The whimsical bubble-mobile just keeps picking up speed--and the rest of the VW lineup is going along for the ride. Overall sales for the German auto maker are up 44.6% in the U.S. so far this year. Its market share, which sank below 3% in 2000, is up to 7%. And VW is on track to sell nearly 300,000 cars in the U.S. in 2010 - a level that Volkswagen has not enjoyed since the Nixon Administration. "VW is absolutely back on the map," says La Plant. "We're totally hip again."

But don't look for the return of the psychedelic VW Microbus next. Instead, think pickup truck. On November 26, VW Chairman Ferdinand Piech caught his North American executives off guard by making public his hope to offer a full-size pickup with car-like comfort. Company insiders believe that he has been squiring his family around Germany in a new, smooth-riding Toyota Tundra, a vehicle that moves pickups in the direction he wants to take VW. Piech says the pickup can be built on the same chassis as the 2011 model sport-utility vehicle VW is developing with Porsche.

But Piech's pickup plan is causing transatlantic tension. North American VW execs want Germany to hold off: They fear it could undermine VW's quirky, offbeat image, built around the Beetle, the Passat sedan, and the Jetta compact. A pickup, they argue, would be hard to pitch credibly in VW's humorous "Drivers Wanted" ad campaign. "We have to stay coherent in our image," says Jens Neumann, VW's top North America executive. "We still have to do a lot of thinking and discussing."

Piech, however, is hungry for the $10,000-per-vehicle profit that some pickups haul in for Detroit. And with price wars cutting VW's margins in Europe, he is increasingly looking to his booming North America operations, where dealers can command sticker price and above for their popular models, VW's Audi luxury line is also enjoying an American resurgence, with hot models like the TT coupe driving sales up 38.4% this year. "As we move upstream, profit margins are becoming better," says Neumann.

Still, the flow of dollars from America has been small so far. Of VW's $3.4 billion in pretax profits last year, North America contributed only $85 million, or 2.5%. Analysts project that North America could account for 5% to 10% of VW's global profits this year. "It's nice to have," says analyst Greg Melich of Morgan Stanley Dean Witter. "But it's not a whole lot."

Still, the greatest challenge for VW is Piech's desire to pit the brand directly against Mercedes-Benz. In Europe, where taxicabs are Mercedes and VW is upscale, that may be reasonable, analysts say. In the U.S., however, Mercedes floats at the top of the automotive food chain, with VW several leagues below. Even so, VW's sport-ute is expected to be priced close to Mercedes' M-class in the $35,000 to $40,000 range. And in 2011, VW is coming up with a $40,000 luxury car. "Going after Mercedes could come at the expense of Audi," warns auto analyst Lincoln Merrihew of Standard & Poor's DRI.

New Volkswagen Polo Sedan Specifications


Polo is a supermini car from the German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen. Polo originated in 1975 in several variants like coupe, sedan, hatchback, saloon and estate and it was sold worldwide. Introduced in India in 2010 and it is the fifth generation model, a car for the next generation with impressive looks. This 2009 model has won "European Car of the Year" award. Volkswagen Polo is one more addition to the already existing competitive as well as lucrative segment of small cars in India. Volkswagen Polo comes with both petrol and diesel engine variants with five speed manual transmissions. The variants prices range between 5 lac and 7 lac rupees.

Volkswagen Polo comes with both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol variants of come with two type of engines. One is 1.2 L engine with the displacement of 1198 cc that has the capacity to produce the maximum power of 75 bhp at the rate of 5400 rpm and maximum torque of 110 Nm at the rate of 3750 rpm and that reaches 0-100 kmph in just 14.2 seconds and the other one is 1.6 Liter with the displacement of 1598 cc that can produce maximum power and torque of 105 PS at 5250 rpm and 153 nm at 3250 rpm respectively that comes with four-cylinder, five-speed manual transmission and reach 100 kmph in 11.1 seconds. The diesel variant is 1.2 Liter diesel engine with the displacement of 1199 cc, which can reach the maximum power of 75 bhp at 4200 rpm and 180 Nm torque at 2000 rpm than can reach 100 kmph speed in 14.4 seconds. The 1.2 liter engines of Polo come with three-cylinder and five speed manual gearboxes. Volkswagen Polo exterior measurement has the dimension of 3790 mm length, 1682 mm width and 1453 mm height and 2456 mm wheelbase.

Volkswagen Polo has powerful and durable engine that delivers good acceleration. Crisp, light and short-throw gearbox, which is best to shift and it is unique in its segment. The 1.2 L petrol variant can give the mileage of 12.5 kmpl in city and 17 kmpl in highway whilst the 1.2 L diesel can give the mileage of 15.2 and 21.5 in city and highway respectively. Vintage Volkswagen Bus - Repair and Troubleshooting of Electrical System

The wiring on a VW van or bus can be very simple. This is particularly true of older models (mid 1960's and earlier).

In fact it's probably one of the simplest wiring schemes in automotive electronics.

For example, there is one wire leading to each set of bulbs in the tail lights. Each one of the bulbs has two leads, one to one of these wires and one to ground. Electrically speaking, very simple. Practically as well. There is no way to achieve the same effect
with fewer wires.

There is one wire running to the left and right set of brake lights, one wire running to the left and right set of turn signal lights and one wire running to the back up lights. It doesn't get much simpler.

A word about the ground wires. As in all cases of ground wires, they must connect to completely bare, bright, shiny metal. After the connection is made, then and only then joint with grease.

After making a ground connection, you can protect the joint from moisture, dirt and general crud by slathering the joint with grease. You don't need a bunch, just cover the whole area and the connector.

The grease trick is especially important if the joint carries a lot of current or one side of the connection is a metal that corrodes. Usually if the wire looks like it's bigger than the average wire, it carries a lot of current and is a good candidate for a really good connection followed by grease.

Generally, anywhere on the body is metal that corrodes (in this case, rusts) On old VWs, there are virtually no semiconductors to worry about. The early fuel injection computers are an exception to this rule.

They became available in the late 60's. A factoid that I can't get over is that the lowly VW was the world's first production car to offer EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) as standard equipment.

As long as your only concern is on a non-EFI VW bus, you're all set.

Volkswagen has released the first three official sketch of the new mid-size sedan NMS, which should be placed between the VW Jetta and Passat, and become full-fledged competitor to the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry.

In the U.S. Volkswagen NMS cost will be 27,665 dollars and 29,095 dollars per wagon, this means that in some countries the cost of a sedan can not exceed $ 25 000.

The presented images illustrate the design of the new model and its modern guise. The front is a stylish hood, with characteristic lines at the sides, new stands and "shoulder", as well as the three sectors of windows.

On this one, VW really does not surprise us, indeed she seeks to do! Not sure. Here is the 7th generation of Passat as the Volkswagen ad, and in fact most probably, a Passat with a restyled front that includes all the gimmicks of the mark. To find a face that resembles that of ... well, all models of the manufacturer and a reworked rear lights with almost similar to those of the new Sharan and Touran restyled, unless this is the Touareg, it is you see
Of course this is true for the hatchback, the estate version goes for exactly Variant or more which is a vital link to Passat (depending on the time it is over 70% of sales of the Volkswagen family

Lovers will appreciate the small sedan wolfsbourgeoise developments inside the car as the arrival of a very select shows needle at the top of the center console! At least it had to do a 7th generation ...

Volkswagen has released the first photos of the pickup Amarok with single cabin, the world premiere will be held at autoexhibition in Hanover, which will open on September 23. Sales of such cars will start on the European market next year, but prices for this car has not been announced.

The novelty length of the loading area reaches 2,205 millimeters, and its total area is 3.57 square meters, which is 650 millimeters or more than one square meter more than the version of the Volkswagen Amarok double cabin.

In Europe, single-cab pickup will be offered with two diesel engines two liters and power 122 and 163 horsepower. The car is available in versions with rear, as well as with the constant drive to all four wheels and the differential Torsen.

In summer 2011, as one of three Up! bodystyles due to arrive from August 2011. The Lupo name was originally mooted, as tipped by the Up constituent; reflecting how the iRoc became the Scirocco.These are among the first spy photos of the new Volkswagen Up! – the city car with which VW will spear into the new affordable small car market around the world. The VW Up! will be pitched upmarket for developed countries, but can be switched to a lower cost mix for more developing markets.
Scooped in the Californian desert testing ahead of a 2011 debut, the VW Up! appears to be as short and stubby as the concept car. Although still lurking beneath several weeks' deliveries of binbags, we can make out the compact footprint of Volkswagen's smallest car which is tipped to cost from around £6000-£7000.

So when does the VW Up! go on sale?

Our new VW Up! spy photos reveal the three-door version; a five-door hatchback will be available from launch, while a taller Space Up! microvan will follow. VW is targeting 600,000 sales per year, once the full suite of models is deployed and once global sales have been launched in every market.

Is the VW Up! technically interesting?

The engineering story has chopped and changed since the launch of the original rear-engined, rear-wheel drive Up! concept. Cost and complexity forced a switch to a more conventional front-engined, front-drive layout, much of the architecture shared with the previous-gen Polo.

As previously reported by Georg Kacher, here is how the three-door Up! compares to the current Polo: wheelbase 2450 (Polo 2470mm), length 3450 (3970mm), width 1630 (1680mm), height 1500 (1460mm), front track 1420 (1446mm), tank capacity 35 (45 litres), cargo deck 180 (280 litres), number of seats four (five), weight 800kg (995kg).

What engines will the VW Up have?

• 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol, 60bhp
• 1.0-litre TFSI four-cylinder petrol, 85bhp
• 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol, 105bhp (from 2012)
